Fault Lines: How Hidden Fractures Still Threaten the World Economy by Raghuram G. Rajan
Rajan provides a flawless diagnosis of the financial crisis that shook the American economy and the contagion that rocked the world. Unlike many analysts who indulge only in a theoretical analyses, he suggests a strategy to prevent such a crisis in the future. His prescription appears plausible, "doable". Most of the book relates to the USA. However, there seem to be very little of his prescription happening on the ground. Even the universal health insurance seems to be foundering.

Requires a prompt knowledge of economics or otherwise a readers should be curious to understand and search for the answers themselves. Raghuram Rajan a real gem for India. Of the books that talk about the panic, and there are plenty, this one takes a step back from all else to view the panic as the culmination of decades of unbalanced policies world-wide.
Rajan avoids the vogue of banker and government bashing that was the order of the day at that time. Giving this book just 5 stars out of 5 is an injustice The book traces multiple factors, or fault lines, that came together to trigger the panic - the huge current account deficit of the US, the u His research brings out certain key aspects: 1 US economy behaved like a developing country where sops and subsidies tend to take more importance prior to in promising a house guarantee to everyone even when many of the people had sub-prime credit rating The author brings out nice examples like a 70 year old woman being given housing loan in US even when her Income field was "Nil" in the a An absolute must read for those who have interest in economics and how it governs the world.
Rajan has taken special care for novice readers like me and explained his reasons in a simplistic manner. Flipkart was prompt with its commitment too. Its like a cinema hero entering into the scene and corrects every mess around. But this time its the real hero - Raghuram Rajan at its best to protect the ailing economy with his foresightedness, experience and superb research right from page 1.
This book is a warning bell for those who think the bad days for the world economy is over - if you want to be the next real life hero - read on to find out what lies beneath the economy off course. Simply awesome book from a brilliant man.
